Wouter Stan van der Hallen

1941 - 1978. Belgium

Wouter Stan van der Hallen (1941-1978) was a painter who, during his short life, paved his way within the post-war development history of abstract art in Belgium.

In the early 1960s, Van der Hallen wrestled himself away from figuration in usually monumental paintings. His abstract compositions are gems of form and color that are stylistically in line with the painting of Serge Poliakoff and the École de Paris.

Wouter Stan Van der Hallen also exhibited his work in 1971 at Galerie De Zwarte Panter, where he received an unexpected visit from Princess Paola.

In the margins of this exhibition, the Verbeke Foundation is publishing a monograph on Wouter Stan Van der Hallen.
